Retinal Detachment

A detached retina occurs when it is pulled away from its normal position in the back of the eye. The retina sends visual images to brain through optic nerve.

Retinal detachment causes blindness unless it is treated.

Symptoms

  • Flashes of light
  • Floaters
  • Grey curtain

Treatment

  1. Retinal tears

    Retinal tears or hole will need to be treated with laser or cryotherapy, to seal the retina to the back wall of the eye. This procedure is performed in opd procedure in ophthalmologists cabin itself. This treatment is usually done to prevent progression to a retinal detachment.

  2. Vitreoretinal microsurgeries (Sutureless)

    Sutureless Vitrectomy: it is the latest method of performing vitrectomy. Similar to cataract surgery, even vitrectomy can be done with a “SUTURELESS” approach. This requires a use of special equipment that enables the surgeon to reach the vitreous with a cut on the conjunctiva that are as small as 0.5mm.These cuts heals on its own and does not require sutures.
